Quigutl gender is different from human gender in a variety of ways. Author Rachel Hartman describes quigutl as genderfluid.

thuthmeptha Edit

Thuthmeptha is the Quootla word for the process by which a quigutl metamorphoses from one sex to another, which happens several times across their lifespans.

Motherhood Edit

Even if, since laying an egg, a quigutl has metamorphosed from female to male, their offspring continue to call them "Mother."

ko Edit

Quigutl use the gender-neutral pronoun ko for each other, no matter what their physical sex is.
